Living History Weekend: Survival Jobs of the Down & Out in Early America
Scoundrel’s Alley will bring to life the lowest parts of society in a way that is safe, approachable, historical, and suited for all ages. From the entertainment of Maggie the Irish washerwoman demonstrating the ways many abandoned and widowed women survived to the sermons and wise words for guests of Parson John, this group is dedicated to making history come alive in a way that makes it more real than just a book. The goal of this event is to have everyone, young and old, walk away feeling like they have experienced something through the stories, struggles, and histories of the underside of life and enjoyed themselves in the process.
In conjunction with the Living History event, we will be running a special Father’s Day weekend raffle, with entry into the raffle being included in the ticket price of both Saturday and Sunday! By visiting on either day you will enter yourself and one of your children, of all ages 8 years or older, for a chance to win a Parent-and-Child Blacksmithing Workshop with Compass Inn Museum’s Father-and-Son blacksmiths, Ed and Lance Appleby! The winner of the raffle will be drawn at 5 pm on Sunday, June 18th. The winner does NOT have to be present to accept their prize.
