Parents, Do You Have A ?Right to Drive? Contract With Your Teen?
BP Insurance will host a “Right to Drive” workshop for parents and their teens on Wednesday, February 24, 6:30 pm-8:00 pm, at the Town Hall, Meeting Room A, in Ligonier. The program is free to attend, but registration is required. Reserve your spot now at http://tinyurl.com/j9mwdmx. Teens must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

According to the CDC, in 2013, “2,163 teens in the United States ages 16-19 were killed and 243,243 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes. That means that six teens ages 16-19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries.”

These are sobering statistics. Teens are simply not making smart decisions when they get behind the wheel. “Often parents fail to communicate the rules for safe driving, because they assume that their son or daughter already knows what is expected of them. While teens feel like they get shortchanged because parents fail to communicate the rules ahead of time,” explains Brian Panichelle, Agency President. The purpose of this workshop is to help parents and teen to overcome this disconnect and to provide the tools they need to:

? Strengthen the parent-teen relationship through communication.
? Agree on acceptable and unacceptable driving behaviors.
? Define driving expectations, rewards, and consequences.
? Avoid conflicts related to the family car and driving.
? Complete a driving agreement that clearly defines the responsibilities of both the parent and the teen.
