SAINT VINCENT PROFESSOR PUBLISHES BOOK ON GENERATIONAL STEREOTYPES

Dr. Michael Urick, director of the Master of Science in Management: Operational Excellence program at Saint Vincent College’s Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government, recently released a book entitled “The Generation Myth: How to Improve Intergenerational Relationships in the Workplace.” 

Published by Business Expert Press, the book addresses myths about generational stereotypes in the business world. Written over a two-year period, the book is compiled from more than a decade of research by Urick.

“Many assumed characteristics of generational groupings are actually myths,” according to the book’s synopsis, “meaning that generational stereotypes are not accurate across all members of a generation. The book explores the generation myth by highlighting the complexity of the ‘generation’ concept beyond simple age-based groupings, and suggests that the overreliance of generational stereotypes in the workplace and society can lead to less than optimal interactions and even conflict. Several successful strategies are presented throughout to help improve inter-generational relationships.”

The eBook was released on Feb. 26, while the book will be released in print in early March. It can be purchased from Amazon and other book retailers.

While this is Urick’s first solely-authored book, he recently served as contributor and co-editor to a three-volume set of leadership books; “Essential Principles for Mangers: Innovative Approaches to Examining Foundational Theories of Management and Leadership;” “Diversity and Performance: Multidisciplinary and Nontraditional Styles of Leadership and Management;” and “Management and Welfare: Applications and Theories of Leadership for the Economy, State and Welfare.”

In these books, Urick co-authored chapters with a variety of contributor, including members of the Saint Vincent faculty (Dr. Thomas Cline, Dr. Terrance Smith, Dr. William Hisker, Dr. Nicholas Racculia and David Adams) and both students and alumni from Saint Vincent’s Master of Management: Operational Excellence program (John Gnecco, Danielle Jackson, Dawna Gilvarry, Ryan Riesmeyer and Muyang Li).
