Blue & Gold Blood Drive welcomes donors to the Pitt-Greensburg Campus
GREENSBURG, PA – As part of its Blue & Gold Celebration and Family Weekend, the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg will host its Blue & Gold blood drive with the American Red Cross on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The event, which is open to the public, will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Smith Hall Lounge.
“According to the American Red Cross, there is a national shortage of blood products,” said Pam Freger, director of the Pitt-Greensburg Health Center. “We encourage anyone who is eligible to donate to please schedule an appointment.” Freger also noted that anyone giving blood Sept. 21 through Oct. 18 will receive a $15 e-gift card. Details are available at rcblood.org/fall. All first-time donors will receive a $20 e-gift card. (Gift cards will be delivered three days to three weeks after the blood drive.) The Red Cross will also have Hello Kitty plush mascot clips for all who donate.
Appointments may be scheduled by calling by calling 1-800-733-2767. Donors may also visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor keyword “HAIL2PITT.” Walk-ins are welcome but may have a longer wait time.
Donors may also streamline their donation experience and save up to 15 minutes by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete the pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of the appointment.

Pitt-Greensburg’s Blue & Gold Celebration is a combination of Alumni Weekend, Families Weekend, and Homecoming. The majority of events are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, with several events kicking off the celebration earlier in the week.
