Saint Vincent Summer Theatre offers special trolley trips

LATROBE, PA – The Saint Vincent Summer Theatre, in cooperation with the Be My Neighbor Committee, is offering three special events that combine the charm of a leisurely trolley ride with the thrills of live theatre for the first night of each new show in June, July and September.

Trolley service will be available from downtown Latrobe to the Performing Arts Center, located in the Robert S. Carey Student Center on the Saint Vincent College campus, for the following Summer Theater performances: “The Foreigner” (June 10), “Showstoppers” (July 8) and “Forever Plaid” (Sept. 9).

The trolley will pick up patrons at 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Stadium parking lot (131 Irving Avenue in Latrobe) and will return them to the same spot immediately after the show. Each show lasts approximately two hours.

The cost of $20 per person includes one theatre ticket and round-trip trolley transportation.

To reserve a spot, contact Maria Meyers at 724-805-2268 or maria.meyers@stvincent.edu. Seating is limited.

“We are pleased to offer this unique opportunity for local theatregoers,” said Dr. Jeff Mallory, C’06, G’13, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Saint Vincent College. “Events such as this will form a stronger bond between the College and the community—creating a more integrated, supportive and collaborative environment for students, residents and local businesses. We look forward to what will be a memorable night out for everyone.”

Mallory is chairman of the Be My Neighbor Committee, a group of local leaders who are working to revitalize the region and strengthen ties between the College and the Latrobe community.

About the Be My Neighbor Committee

Backed by a grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, the committee is comprised of officials from Saint Vincent College, the city of Latrobe, the Greater Latrobe School District, the Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation, the McFeely-Rogers Foundation, the Latrobe Community Revitalization Program and the Latrobe Foundation. Representatives from the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Chamber of Commerce and other business owners and professionals are also involved.

The committee’s priorities include connecting downtown Latrobe with Legion-Keener Park, creating a public GIS map of outdoor recreation areas within the city, rehabbing houses and increasing owner-occupied homes, and boosting business assistance and economic development.
